Creating is hard.
Babies, products, writing - it’s all hard, but creating is a human impulse. We strive to create, to plunk things down on the Earth that please us, please others, things that have a chance to outlast us.
Creating is exactly the thing my mind has been missing. Filling my idle moments with design has been an invigoration I forgot I needed.
Being immersed in poetry and literature at school introduced me to new loves but my time since has been nearly devoid of them. The joys - and struggles - of adulthood have kept me fully occupied. Recently, however, the challenges of raising a child have given me the opportunity to refocus on the things I want to do while I’m able to do them, and reforging myself as a father has created some small space to fit those goals into.
Myself, a father. There’s so much going on: the baby, the wife, the house, the job. The work! It’s all work, and it’s all rewarding, and it’s all hard, for me and for them, and it’s all worth it.
A little more work, then, why not? I’m creating tabletop RPG content. These silly games we play have been a pure love that predates all the layers added to my person since my own childhood. I can't wait to share them. Blending all of these layers of my life together into this project feels like finding the last piece of a puzzle that’s been taking up space on the table, incomplete for so long that I had stopped trying to finish it without even noticing. We don’t eat at that table anymore; we can’t really explain why, we just don’t.
Creating is a hard edge that scrapes away the layers of our personal entropies.
Talk to you soon.
